Have you ever wondered what your relationship with God should look like?
Maybe, you have heard someone express how they talk with God.
Perhaps you have a desire to get closer to God.
Or, you would like to know when God is speaking to you.
Whatever category you fit in, I want you to know I have been where you are.
I grew up in church culture.
I was educated on how to be a Christ follower.
However, I eventually reached to a point in life where I had to be honest with myself.
I was not experiencing God where our relationship was personal.
In other words, I didn’t feel confident to know when God was speaking to me, such as a friend or family member.
John 10:27 shares, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
Shortly after, I identified the missed connection that I felt with God.
I needed to go beyond the surface level as a believer of Christ in order to grow a personal and closer relationship with God.
Eventually, I was able to do this by doing the following three things: surrender, surround, and sustain.
1. Surrender: I made a decision to submit to the authority of God being Lord.
Meaning, my actions reflected me giving God the power, authority, or influence over my decisions.
2. Surround: I made a decision to intentionally surround myself where I believed God’s presence resides.
I decided to not simply attend church, Bible study, or church groups, but I attended with an open mind believing what I heard was God speaking directly to me.
3. Sustain: I made a decision to be intentional to practice what I learned in God’s presence throughout my day.
Now, I can say though I have been where you are.
However, if I can be transparent, I am still practice surrendering, surrounding, and sustaining.
Because I realize in order for me to create with The Creator, I have to intentionally surrender, surround, and sustain to create effectively.
