Spiritual Growth: Level Up In Christian Maturity Part I

It’s time for you to grow up!

These were the exact words I believe I heard from God the other day.

It was about 6am.

I woke up with a mood to really read the Bible.

There was exactly one hour left for me to get dressed for work.

However, I wanted God to speak to me before making any moves.

Now, I’m not sure if you’re like me where you are finally in a good space in life while having an intimate relationship with God.

If so, you know hearing from God has to be routinely intentional instead of simply going throughout your day all haphazardly!

Without delay, I rotated my body to the right while forcing my plush blanket to my ankles and sat up.

Then, I scooted over in my bed, raised up my body, and turned on the ceiling light.

Once the light was on, I immediately spotted my Bible in which I grabbed and flopped right back down in my pillows.

As I pulled the covers over my shoulders, all of a sudden, I felt lost.

I had no idea where to start reading!

I started flipping the Bible’s pages with hopes God would just kindly adjust my eyes and fix them on where He knew I needed.

Lately, I’ve been intentional in praying for my future family and had the assumption God would give me a good ole Proverbs chapter to meditate on and what not.

Now, don’t judge me…you know you’ve done it too! 😉

A few minutes passed, then I found myself in Hebrews.

I was thinking, Who reads Hebrews?

At the same time, I knew there was a message God needed to get to me and share through me.

The more I read the more I knew why He led me to this specific book!

You see, after reading the first four chapters, I was thoroughly interested in learning more.

What was even better I checked my phone and discovered I had enough time to read at least two more chapters!

As I continued reading, what I didn’t expect was to read the following verses:

You have been believers for so long that you are to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong. Hebrews 5:12-14

I read those verses and said out loud, Did God just come for me?

Honey Bunches, I felt so spiritually attacked!

However, what those scriptures revealed to me was simple:

Our understanding of the Bible cannot be limited to one resource.

Meaning, as believers we cannot solely depend on hearing a word from God through a pastor, church leader, prophet, or organization!

There should be a certain point in our spiritual journeys where it’s no longer enough.

To mature spiritually, requires you and I to read the Bible for ourselves, seek God for wisdom, and share the gospel with others.

In my most clean version of Meek Mill, I say this to you as I said to myself, Honey Bunches, There’s levels to this!

And, it’s time to Level up!

Now, those words are from Ciara😄

During recent events, most churches are limited to only streaming live services and no longer have the option to hold connection groups such as, bible study, life groups, etc.

Without community, it creates room in our world for the enemy, Satan, to distract people from growing spiritually.

Yet, if we are disciples of Christ, isn’t it our duty to know and share the gospel?

We have social media platforms…

We have video chat apps…

We have our homes…

What if we start using this time of social distance to expand the Kingdom of God?

What if we stop looking at we can no longer can do through an organization but what God can do through us, organisms?

Jesus gave each us the authority to share the gospel when he said “Go and make disciples of all nations…”, but we need to understand the power we have access to before trying to convince someone of theirs.

Honey Bunches, say it with me…

It’s time to Level Up!

The body of Christ can no longer sit back and allow what’s going on in our world to hinder us from spiritual growth.

We have the power and victory through Jesus to ignite a revival.

I’m ready!

Are you?

We need to understand the power we have access to before trying to convince someone of theirs.
