Do you remember the very first Bible verse you learned?
I know I do.
I still remember the excitement I felt when I could recite that verse without looking at the page. As a child, it felt like such a huge accomplishment.
At the time, I probably didn’t realize that I was doing more than memorizing words...I was hiding God’s word in my heart.
Since then, I’ve learned many more verses!
Now that I’m not too much older...I’ve noticed something beautiful.
Those Scriptures have become a part of my everyday life.
When I find myself facing a difficult situation, a Bible verse often comes to mind.
In moments of uncertainty, God’s word has a way of reminding me of His promises, His faithfulness, and His truth.
One verse that continues to encourage me is:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” -Psalm 119:105
God’s word doesn’t always show us the entire journey, but it faithfully gives us enough light for the next step.
Recently, I had a conversation with someone who has been intentionally growing closer to God. During our conversation, they shared that they realized how much of their day had become consumed by their phone and technology.
It wasn’t something they noticed overnight, but once they recognized how much screen time was filling their day, they made the decision to spend some time away from their device.
Instead of reaching for their phone, they began reaching for their Bible. They spent more time reading scripture and listening to messages centered on God’s word.
As I listened, I couldn’t help but smile.
It reminded me of a time when life felt a little simpler. There wasn’t so much pressure to constantly stay connected or entertained. There was more room to simply sit, learn, and enjoy people, friends, family, God’s presence through church.
I believe we live in a time when it’s more important than ever to rediscover God’s word.
Not because we’re trying to earn God’s love.
Not because we’re trying to complete another spiritual checklist.
Not because we’re trying to impress anyone.
But, simply because we desire to know Him more.
The Bible tells us:
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” -James 4:8
I love that promise.
When we take a step toward God, He faithfully meets us there.
Bible reading isn’t about winning trophies, earning awards, or checking another box on our to-do list. It’s about spending time with the One who knows us better than anyone else.
It’s about setting aside distractions...even things that aren’t necessarily bad to make room for what is eternal.
Every time we open our Bible, we’re choosing to spend time with the One who created us, loves us, and knows exactly what we need.
That’s time that is never wasted.
This Week's Faith Moves:
Read one chapter each day from either the book of Proverbs or the book of Psalms for the rest of the week.
So many people pray and ask God for wisdom, yet Proverbs is filled with practical wisdom for everyday life, while Psalms reminds us how to trust, worship, and depend on God through every season.
One chapter.
One day at a time.
My prayer is that as you spend time in God’s word, you’ll not only gain wisdom but also grow closer to the God who desires a relationship with you.
May His word become a lamp for your feet, a light for your path, and a steady reminder that you never walk alone.
Verse of the Day
Psalms Psalm 119:105: (NIV) “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
New Here?
Hi, I am your friend, Breonna, here to help women trust God, apply His word, and actually build what He told them (even when they don't have it all figured out yet.)
If you are in a season where you're serious about trusting God for real...friend I wrote a whole book just for you called Bet on God.
