Choose Even When You Don’t Feel Like It | Empower Her Blog

Friend, sometimes you already know what to do.

The problem isn’t knowing...it’s deciding to do it.

Joshua 24:15 says:

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

When I reflect on this scripture, one word stands out to me:

Choose.

Choosing God means more than saying we believe in Him, it means allowing God to influence the decisions we make with our lives.

And sometimes, that means choosing what God says even when you don’t feel like doing it!

Listen, this past Saturday morning, I woke up after taking some time to pray and read my Bible.

Friend, I was lying in bed when the thought came to me:

I want to go for a walk.

Now friend…

My body did not want to get out of that bed😂

I wasn’t sick. I wasn’t exhausted. I had simply gotten comfortable.

But then, I started thinking about something else.

I remembered how I feel after I walk.

I thought about how good it feels to move my body.

I thought about previous walks.

I thought about what consistently making healthier decisions could produce in my future.

And suddenly, I wasn’t making my decision based only on how I felt at that moment.

I was making it based on where I wanted to go.

So I got up!

I put my hair up, brushed my teeth, put on my workout clothes and went walking.

And to my surprise, friend…

I even jogged a little bit!

And God used something as ordinary as a Saturday morning walk to remind me of something:

Sometimes you have to make today’s decision with tomorrow’s transformation in mind!

There will be days when you don’t feel like doing what you know you need to do.

There will be circumstances that make obedience uncomfortable.

There will be moments when your emotions tell you one thing while God’s word tells you another.

That’s when you have to remember where choosing God is leading you.

Think about the person you’re becoming.

Think about the prayers you’ve been praying.

Think about the life you’re asking God to help you build.

Think about the testimony your obedience could create!

HELLO!!!

Think about the people who may one day be blessed because you decided to obey God today.

Friend, your feelings are real, but they don’t have to make every decision for you.

Sometimes you have to tell yourself:

“I may not feel like it, but I know where I’m going.”

This Week's Faith Moves:

Before making a decision today, ask yourself:

“Is this decision based on how I feel right now, or is it aligned with where God is leading me?”

Then, choose one thing you can actually do that agrees with the future you’re praying for.

Maybe that’s sending the email.

Taking the walk.

Opening the savings account.

Reading the Bible.

Applying for the opportunity.

Setting the boundary...LISTEN!

Starting what you’ve been postponing.

Whatever your one thing is, don’t wait until you feel perfectly ready.

Be like Nike and Just Do It!

Because sometimes the difference between where you are and where you’re praying to be begins with one simple choice:

Choosing God today.

I love you, bestie, you got this!

Verse of the Day

Joshua 24:15 (NKJV) But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

New Here?

Hi, I am your friend, Breonna, here to help women trust God, apply His word, and actually build what He told them (even when they don't have it all figured out yet.)
