I Can See Now | Empower Her Blog

Have you ever realized that something in your life wasn’t as clear as you thought it was until one moment changed everything?

Sometimes we don’t recognize what we’re missing until we’re given a new lens.

What once felt confusing…distant…or out of reach...suddenly comes into focus.

I’ll never forget the moment I realized my own vision was changing.

I was in about the third grade, sitting in the back of my classroom, listening as my teacher pointed to the board.

I wanted to follow along, but everything was blurry.

I couldn’t see what the teacher was pointing to.

So, I did the only thing I knew to do: I asked for help.

I remember asking if I could move closer to the board.

The teacher hesitated at first because I had an assigned seat, but after some pleading, they agreed.

The moment I moved closer, relief came.

I could finally see.

Not long after, my parents took me to the eye doctor.

I was asked to read letters on a wall...letters I couldn’t quite make out.

After what felt like forever, I was given my very first pair of glasses.

The moment those glasses rested on my face, everything changed.

What was once blurry became clear.

It seems like every time I read John 9, I imagine the man Jesus healed felt something similar...except even deeper. One encounter with Jesus made everything clearer.

In John 9, Jesus heals a man who was blind from birth.

After the miracle, Jesus makes a powerful statement:

John 9:39 (NIV) "Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”

Jesus wasn’t only talking about physical sight.

He was speaking about spiritual vision.

Some believed they could already see because of religion, tradition, or rules yet they missed Him entirely!

Others knew they were blind and because of that humility, they received true sight.

Because that’s what happens when Jesus brings clarity...we receive clarity not just to our eyes, but to our hearts.

As I’ve grown in my faith, I realized something important:

Jesus wasn’t calling people out for being blind.

He was calling people out for thinking they could see without Him.

For a long time, I believed my relationship with God was about doing the “right” religious things.

Going to church.

Giving tithes.

Singing in the choir.

Going through motions. Checking boxes. Trying harder.

But, then clarity came.

I realized faith isn’t sustained by doing things religiously.

Faith is nurtured through relationship with God.

Relationship is where trust is built, grace is understood, and growth actually happens.

Just like my glasses didn’t make my eyes work harder, but helped them see clearly, Jesus doesn’t burden us.

He reveals truth.

Sharing My Story For You

You could be experiencing areas in your life that feel blurry right now.

Perhaps, you’re trying to understand God better, questioning your faith, or you’re doing all the “right” things but still feel distant.

Here is what I am learning:

Clarity begins when we admit we need help seeing.

And, the first step to seeing clearly is accepting the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.

It is only through Him, our Savior, given to the world, that spiritual vision becomes clear.

Start Today:

1. Ask God for clarity.

Pray honestly about the areas that feel confusing or distant.

2. Move closer.

Just like I moved closer to the board, lean into scripture, prayer, and time with God.

3. Release religious pressure.

Focus on relationship, not performance.

4. Reflect.

Ask yourself: Where have I assumed I could see without Jesus?

If this message spoke to you, I want to invite you to stay connected.
