Sharing Your Faith | Empower Her Blog

Your Story Could Be the Breakthrough Someone Else Needs.

What if the reason you're being encouraged to share your story is because someone else's breakthrough is connected to your obedience?

One of the greatest lessons I've learned about sharing my faith is that when I focus on what God has done for me rather than on my fears, it becomes easier to be brave!

Fear wants us to focus on ourselves.

Fear makes us focus on what people will think, whether we'll say the right thing, or if our story is "good enough."

But faith is different!

Faith helps us to focus back on God and His faithfulness!

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” -Psalm‬ ‭27‬:‭1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When I was younger, I never imagined I would be speaking in front of people.

If you had asked me what I wanted to be, I probably would have said a lawyer because I loved watching Law & Order and In the Heat of the Night.

At another point, I wanted to be a basketball player like Sheryl Swoopes!

Then something unexpected happened.

During my senior year of high school, a teacher encouraged me and helped me understand the power words have to inspire and influence people.

She noticed that I had a gift for encouraging others.

The same teacher told me that I was a good writer.

Her words took me back to middle school when a friend and I would spend time writing stories together.

Suddenly, memories I had forgotten began to resurface!

For the first time, I started thinking, "Maybe one day I'll become a writer."

I didn't know what that journey would look like.

I didn't know how God would use it.

I just knew that if I ever became a writer, I wanted my words to help people!

Not long after that, I wrote a letter to my future self.

In that letter, I listed the person I hoped to become ten years later.

One of those things was becoming a writer...sidebar I still have that letter :)

Today, I look back and see God's hand throughout the entire process.

That's why I believe your story matters, too, friend!

Many people think sharing their testimony means telling every detail of their life.

But, sharing your story doesn't have to be a 200-page book.

It doesn't have to be a 20-minute speech.

Sometimes it's as simple as this:

"This is where I was."

"This is where I am now."

"And, this is how God helped me get here."

This Week's Faith Moves:

When it comes to sharing your faith, I've learned three simple steps:

1. Ask God for Help

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”

‭‭-James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Before sharing your story, ask God to guide your words. Ask Him who needs to hear it and how He wants you to share it.

2. Acknowledge Where You've Been

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

‭‭-2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Don't forget where God brought you from. The places you've overcome often become the places where you can encourage someone else!

3. Focus on God's Faithfulness

“To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭18‬:‭25‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The more you focus on what God has done, the less you focus on your fear!

Your testimony becomes less about your performance and more about His power.

I've learned that remembering God's faithfulness at every step has made sharing my story sooo much easier!!!

Instead of worrying about whether I'm qualified, I remember that God is the One who brought me through.

He's the One who healed, restored, guided, and strengthened me.

And, if my story can help even one person get closer to God, then every part of the journey was worth it!

You never know who is waiting on the other side of your obedience.

Your story may be the reminder someone needs that God still answers prayers, still transforms lives, and still works miracles today.

Reflection Question: What has God brought you through that could encourage someone else today?
