The Prayer That Changed Everything - The Night I Was Healed | Empower Her Blog

For as long as I could remember, I had struggled with intense stomach cramps.

It first occurred when I attended college. One day, I was home from school when, out of nowhere, my stomach tightened in a way that was unbearable. My head was spinning, my palms were sweaty, and I didn’t know why it was happening. I literally felt as if I was facing the end of my life.

My significant other at the time encouraged me to go to the hospital, but I was a poor college student. That meant I couldn’t afford an emergency room visit to find out what was going on with my body. The only thing I could muster up was, “Please get me some crackers and an Advil.” While I waited, time felt like it was not on my side. I struggled to get to the restroom and tried to run a warm bath. As the water poured into the tub, my significant other brought me the crackers and the pain pill.

Episodes like this would occur in my body for years. Month after month, year after year, I would find myself experiencing sudden, tight cramps at random times. I had heard stories of women dealing with things like endometriosis and other chronic conditions. But whenever I went to the doctor, they would say nothing was wrong. I would get a report saying I was healthy.

At times, I would get frustrated because I didn’t know why it was happening but I knew it was happening, and I was scared.

I remember recently beginning to feel those same symptoms again. I was nauseous and experiencing sharp pain in my stomach. But this time, I decided enough was enough. As I hugged the toilet, preparing to pour out whatever was in my stomach, I began reciting the Lord’s Prayer. Placing my right hand on my stomach, I repeated over and over:

“Lord, may Your kingdom come,

May Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven—

In my body and in my life.”

To my surprise, the cramps went away. I didn’t need any medicine. Within a few moments, I had experienced a miracle.

I’m sharing this not to discourage anyone from visiting their doctor, but to remind you of the power that God allows us to experience especially when it comes to healing ourselves as believers. Quite often in church, people lay hands on others, but we can also lay hands on ourselves and be healed.

Sharing My Story For You

If you are a woman struggling with some form of pain, I pray this encourages you to know the power you possess as a woman of faith. The same God who raised Jesus from the dead, the same God who healed the woman with the issue of blood, still has power that can be seen, witnessed, and known in our own lives.

Verse of the Day

Luke 8:48 NIV, "Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace."
