What Have You Heard? | Empower Her Blog

There are moments when life feels stuck....not because God isn’t moving, but because you haven’t heard what He’s saying yet.

Sometimes the delay isn’t disobedience.

It’s information.

You can believe in God, love God, even desire God and still be standing at the edge of a new beginning simply because no one has told you what’s available to you next.

And God sees that.

Acts 19:2 (CSB) “and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” “No,” they told him, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

This verse reveals something powerful:

There is a beginning to everything.

A beginning to faith.

A beginning to understanding.

A beginning to boldness.

A beginning to movement.

For these believers, nothing was “wrong” with them.

They believed.

They were faithful.

They just hadn’t heard yet.

And hearing was the doorway to everything changing.

Faith often begins with what we hear.

Hope rises.

Action follows.

Movement begins.

Recently, I had the opportunity to volunteer in children’s ministry with middle school students.

I opened the class inviting anyone who wanted to pray.

No hands went up.

So, I prayed.

I shared the lesson.

And as the class continued, we found ourselves back on the topic of prayer.

I felt the Holy Spirit gently nudge me to say something along the lines of:

“Prayer isn’t about being loud.

It’s not about having all the right words.

Prayer is simply a conversation with God.”

In response, a student’s hand went up!

They volunteered to pray...and prayed well!!

In that moment, I realized something sacred had happened.

Nothing changed about the student...except what they heard.

Just like in Acts 19, these believers loved God but didn’t yet have access to the fullness of what He had given because no one had explained it to them.

That day, I believe a beginning was planted in that student’s life...simply because someone spoke truth.

As I read Acts 19, one question convicted me deeply:

Whose beginning are you assigned to?

Not everyone is called to finish the work.

Not everyone is called to lead the crowd.

But, someone is called to speak the word that unlocks the next step.

Sometimes God assigns us to beginnings...to conversations, to clarity, to courage, to understanding.

This week, ask yourself:

-Whose beginning am I assigned to?

-What have I heard that someone else might not have heard yet?

-How can I share that truth with love, simplicity, and obedience?

You don’t need a platform.

You don’t need perfect words.

You just need willingness.

Speak the following out loud where you are:

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” - Romans 10:17

I am attentive to what God has spoken to me, and I am willing to share it when He leads. I understand that what I’ve heard may be the beginning someone else is praying for.

If this spoke to you, take a few moments today to pray or journal about who God may be placing on your heart.

Beginnings don’t always look dramatic.

Sometimes they look like a simple sentence spoken in obedience.

God is still starting things.

Still awakening hearts.

Still using ordinary moments to spark extraordinary faith.

Stay open to what you hear.

And stay willing to speak when He asks.
