Knowing God vs Having a Relationship w/ God (My Story) | Empower Her Blog

Church introduced me to God, but consistency is what made Him real to me.
There was a whole time when I knew about God… but I didn’t truly know Him!
I grew up around church culture.
I heard people talk about how God was powerful, loving, faithful, and consistent.
And, I wanted that kind of relationship sooo badly!
I wanted to feel close to Him, not just hear about Him through other people’s stories.
But for a long time, my relationship with God stayed at a distance.
I’ve always been a pretty observant person. When I enter new environments, I don’t always speak much at first I watch, I listen, I wait until I feel comfortable.
And in a way, that’s how my relationship with God was too.
I was present…but not fully engaged.
Looking back, I can see moments where God was covering me. Situations that worked out when they shouldn’t have.
Doors that opened unexpectedly. Things aligning better than I could have imagined.
At the time, I didn’t always recognize it.
Now I know, that was God!
But, everything shifted when life hit a point where I felt hopeless.
You know, the kind of moment where you realize you need something deeper.
Something real.
That’s when I stopped just hearing about God…and I started seeking Him.
Jeremiah 29:13 says: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
That verse became more than just words on a page, friend.
Because just like any relationship, you can meet someone once, but a relationship doesn’t grow without intention or connection.
And it’s the same with God!
I had “met” Him before.
But, I hadn’t made time for Him.
When I began opening my Bible…not just reading it, but actually making efforts to understand who He is…
…when I started talking to Him honestly in prayer…
...when I made space for Him in my everyday life…
That’s when everything changed!
The more we connect with God, the deeper our relationship becomes.
Our relationship becomes deeper, and trust grows stronger.
And the stronger trusts grows, the clearer His voice becomes.
Scripture also says, “My sheep know my voice.”
Friend, I began to experience that for myself!
I started recognizing what was for me and what wasn’t through His voice by studying His word in the Holy Bible.
I started feeling led, not just guessing.
I started trusting Him, not just hoping things would work out.
Friend, one of the greatest decisions you can make in this life is choosing to build a real relationship with God!
Not a perfect one or performative one.
A real one.
This Week's Faith Moves...aka Nuggets :)
If you’ve been wanting to get closer to God, here’s where to start:
1. Be intentional daily.
Make time to connect with God...Daily! That could be reading scripture, journaling, or even sitting in silence. It doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to be consistent.
2. Pray honestly.
Prayer isn’t about sounding impressive. It’s a conversation. Talk to God about what’s actually on your heart, your fears, your gratitude, your needs.
3. Stay consistent, not perfect.
This isn’t about getting it “right” every day. It’s about showing up.
The more you show up, the more your relationship will grow.
There are even tools that can help, like Youversion's The Bible app or devotionals, but the most important thing is your willingness to seek Him.
Because the truth is this:
God becomes real to you when you choose to pursue Him for yourself!
And when you do…you won’t just hear about Him anymore.
You’ll know Him.
Verse of the Day
Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV) “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Hey bestie… if this blessed you, I don’t think it was by accident.
This space exists so women like you can be reminded of who God is and who you are in Him.
If you feel led, you can support the blog and help us keep showing up for the next girl who needs this kind of encouragement too.
New Here?
Hi, I am your friend, Breonna, here to help women trust God, apply His word, and actually build what He told them (even when they don't have it all figured out yet.)
If you are in a season where you're serious about trusting God for real...
