Why What You Know About God Isn’t Enough Anymore | Empower Her Blog

Ever notice how something you’ve heard your whole life suddenly makes sense… later?

Same verse.

Same words.

Totally different understanding.

I’m realizing faith works the same way.

Growing up, I remember learning that there are different learning styles.

Some people learn by hearing, some learn by seeing, some learn by doing or by experiencing.

Back then, it was just information.

But now, as I grow in my faith, I am realizing something deeper:

God teaches us in much the same way.

There are things I’ve heard for years.

Scriptures I’ve known since I was younger.

Truths I’ve been taught my whole life.

Yet now, those same things are landing differently.

What I once knew as knowledge is becoming understanding.

The Bible tells us that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

And that’s true, our faith begins when we hear God's word.

But as our faith grows, so does our understanding.

It expands as life expands!

It deepens through experience, obedience, and real circumstances.

I think back to when I first made the decision to truly Bet on God.

I wasn’t casually curious.

I was hungry...all in!

I remember praying boldly, almost daringly:

“God, if you are who you say you are...prove it. And, I believe if you are who you say you are you will blow my mind.”

And honestly?

It felt like answers came quickly back then.

Prayers were answered fast.

Scripture felt alive immediately.

God’s voice felt clear.

But as time went on, something shifted.

God wasn’t just answering me anymore...I now see that He was teaching me.

Sometimes I’d hear Him through His word, situations or understanding came only after I walked through something hard.

And now, I’m in a season where faith isn’t just something I hear about, it’s something I’m living out.

I can’t just listen anymore.

I can’t just read anymore.

I can’t just nod in agreement anymore.

There has to be application!

Because real understanding always produces action.

Just like in school, you know, the material wasn’t enough.

At some point, you had to take the test.

You had to complete the assignment.

You had to show what you knew!

Faith works the same way.

If we say we trust God, that trust should be visible.

If we say we believe Him, belief should leave evidence.

If we say we’re growing in faith, growth should show up in how we live.

This year can be one of the greatest years of our lives...but only if our hope in God becomes evident.

Not perfect or loud.

Just lived.

Here’s your simple assignment for the week :)

Ask yourself:

“What is one thing God has already shown me… that I’ve heard, but haven’t fully applied yet?”

Then, do one small thing to live it out.

Not everything.

Not all at once.

Just one step.

That’s where understanding grows.

If this resonates with you, this journey, this shift from belief to lived faith is exactly why I wrote Bet on God.

It’s not about having all the answers.

It’s about learning how to trust God for real in everyday life, in real decisions, and in real seasons.

If you’re ready to move from knowing about God to walking with Him, Bet on God is for you.
