An Act of Faith (Even When Life Doesn’t “Rain”) | Empower Her Blog

Most of us own an umbrella.

We keep one in the car. Or tucked away at home.

Not because it rains every day, but because we know one day it will.

Preparation isn’t about fear.

It’s about understanding that the one thing guaranteed about life, it changes, and wisdom plans ahead.

That simple thought stayed with me after something unexpected happened recently.

On my way to work, I experienced a flat tire.

Nothing dramatic. No emergency. But, definitely inconvenient.

What stood out to me wasn’t the tire itself...it was my response.

In past seasons of my life, something like this would’ve sent me into panic.

I would’ve felt embarrassed. Overwhelmed.

Calling my parents, my older brother, or payday loan for help because I didn’t have savings, coverage, or a plan.

But this time, I was calm.

I had money set aside, roadside assistance through my car insurance.

Even the new tires came with a warranty, coverage already built in if something like this were to happen again.

Friend, I felt like a real adult!

As I sat with that later, I realized something important:

This was the first real time I was able to fully handle an unexpected situation without scrambling or depending on someone else to rescue me.

Now, I’ll be honest.

I did call my dad for guidance and feedback.

Listen, wisdom still asks questions!

But, the difference was that I wasn’t calling for someone to fix it for me.

I was simply seeking confirmation while taking responsibility.

And, I couldn’t help but thank God for that growth!

Not because I had more money, but because I had more wisdom.

This experience brought a familiar verse to mind: The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down. - Proverbs 21:20

This verse isn’t about restriction.

It’s about stewardship.

The wise don’t save because they’re afraid...they save because they understand seasons.

Just like an umbrella, preparation exists for moments that don’t happen daily, but do happen eventually.

Flat tires. Medical bills. Job changes. Life shifts.

As women building by faith, it’s important that we prepare not only spiritually, but practically for ourselves and for our families.

One thing I’m learning in this season is that faith doesn’t mean ignoring responsibility. It means trusting God and being diligent with the resources He provides.

I am learning stewardship looks like:

-Making sure every dollar has an assignment

- Not spending everything just because it’s available

-Re-evaluating your budget as life changes

-Using resources wisely instead of reacting emotionally

When we steward well, God often provides before we realize we’ll need it.

And...that’s what I experienced!

Not stress.

Not embarrassment.

But, peace because preparation was already in place.

This Week's Faith Move...

If you’re reading this and thinking, “I want that kind of peace,” here are a few simple places to start:

-Take inventory of what you already have

-Identify one area where preparation would bring peace

-Begin assigning purpose to your money, even in small amounts

-Remember friend, preparedness is progress, not perfection.

You’re not behind.

You’re learning.

And wisdom, grows one decision at a time.

Just like keeping an umbrella nearby, not because it’s raining today, but because you’re prepared for when it does.

If reading this made you realize you’d like to be more prepared....especially for moments that don’t happen every day but do happen, I created a simple, faith-based budget and savings resource to help you steward what you already have with intention.

It’s designed to remove overwhelm and help you start right where you are.

No pressure. Just wisdom, clarity, and peace when life changes.
