Choosing Truth Over Feelings | Empower Her Blog

You walk into a room… and everything is dark.
You can’t see what’s in front of you.
You can’t tell what’s safe.
You can’t even fully trust your next step, but the moment you flip the switch everything changes.
Not because the room changed…but because the light came on.
That’s what it’s like walking with God.
There was a time when we lived in darkness...confused, overwhelmed, reacting out of emotion, trying to figure life out on our own. But Ephesians 5:8 reminds us:
"For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!”
Bestie… you’re not trying to find the light.
You are the light now.
Even as children of light…we will still feel the darkness around us.
Recently, I found myself overwhelmed.
The thing was it had been a while since I felt like that.
Someone did something that really upset me.
My chest got tight.
My thoughts started racing. I could feel frustration building.
And in that moment, I had a choice:
Do I let what I feel control me?
Or, do I stand on what I know?
In the past, I felt, “React. Defend yourself. You’ve been here before.”
“Fix this now. Say something. Do something. Don’t sit in this discomfort.”
But, if I follow those voices...I know it only leads to regret, disconnection, and cycles I’ve been praying to break.
As children of the light, we must walk in the light!
In that moment, scripture rose up in me:
James 1:19, “Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.”
Bestie… that was the light switch!
Nothing about the situation changed instantly, but I did.
I didn’t allow what I was feeling to dictate what I knew.
And that’s the difference between living in darkness vs. walking in light:
• Darkness reacts
• Light responds
Let’s be real…
Sometimes the reason we feel overwhelmed is because life isn’t perfect.
People will disappoint you.
Situations won’t go your way.
Unexpected things will happen.
Light doesn’t eliminate darkness, it reveals how to move through it.
You can’t shine if there’s nothing to shine in.

✨ How to Let Your Light Shine (Even When It Feels Dark)
1. Pause Before You React
Give your spirit time to catch up with your emotions.
2. Go Back to What You Know
What has God already said about how to respond? Let that lead you.
3. Name What You Feel, But Don’t Obey It
Feelings are real, but they are not always righteous.
4. Let Scripture Interrupt Your Thoughts
Just like in that moment...truth will rise if you’ve planted it.
5. Choose Alignment Over Emotion
You don’t have to feel peaceful to choose peace.
Not always in big, dramatic moments…but in quiet decisions where you choose truth over feelings.
Bestie, if things have felt overwhelming lately…if it seems like a lot is going on around you…
This is your reminder:
The light is already in you.
You don’t need to panic.
You don’t need to react.
You don’t need to figure everything out right now.
Just flip the switch.
Go back to what you know.
Stand on truth.
And walk as who God already said you are.
