Is It Possible To Love Jesus And Be Greek?

If you’re reading this blog post, you have thought about being involved in a Greek-lettered organization, know someone who’s involved, or already a member.

No matter what category you fall under I want you to know it is possible to love Jesus and be Greek!

How do I know?

Well…

It all started Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 7:35pm…

…okay seriously…

Due to my love and respect of the organizations I became a part of I’m not to going share with you every detail of my Greek experiences.

I don’t even plan to share with you today my full journey in being a Christian.

However, I will share how saying yes to Greek life and choosing to love Jesus can be possible, and quite synonymous!

As you and I both know, in the world’s culture similar to being a Christian, Greek life can get a pretty bad wrap.

Yet, today my prayer is that I can help give you a fresh perspective when someone chooses to pledge…

…you know agreeing to a process😉

Now, I’m sure you are trying to figure out, “Okay, but how can one love Jesus and be Greek?”

The answer is simple and can only be determined by you or the person who is choosing the commitment: What is the reason behind agreeing to the life?

Meaning, one must know and follow the purpose in what they do.

If not, their decision can result in perishing.

Proverbs 29:18 says it best:

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepth the law, happy is he.

When a person makes a decision to follow after Christ, God will reveal His divine vision for their life.

If the person follows the vision, they will have a life of prosperity, hope, and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

This also may be applied to Greek-life.

When a person is secure of who they are in Christ and knows the purpose behind their decision to be a Greek member, their Greek-life experience will bring joy to them and extend the life of their respective organization(s).

Now, that you are familiar in understanding the close purposes in a Greek-life Christ believer let me also explain more on the three words that make the decision to love Christ and be in a Greek org interchangeable: sisterhood/brotherhood, scholarship, and service.

1. Sisterhood/Brotherhood

You are needed to help the body thrive.

The human body has many parts, but the mini parts make up one body. So it is with the body of Christ. I Corinthians 12:12

When becoming a member of Christ’s body, your unique self officially gets joined together in a community whose mission is to build the Kingdom of God.

This is similar when a person decides to be a part of a Greek-community.

Once a person becomes part of a Greek-lettered community they have agreed to be involved in lifting up the divine purpose of the organization with their fellow brothers and sisters.

2. Scholarship

Obtaining knowledge and discipline establishes a solid foundation.

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 1:7

I believe in order to have true success in life is to be knowledgeable and disciplined.

For those who love Christ or are Greek affiliated understand this truth!

If a person says they love Christ, their words are valid by how they discipline themselves in the wisdom of God.

Similar to being Greek, in order to become a member there is a necessary process in learning the organization’s key information to help the person thrive.

In my personal experience, practicing discipline and wisdom has been the key to my success in both of my experiences, Greek life and being a Christ follower.

3.Service

Your gifts are meant and best used to serve others.

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another I Peter 4:10 NLT

For me, the greatest thing about being a Christ follower and being Greek is the ability to obtain a greater reach in service!

The more I choose to serve with my sisters the more I’m able to honor God.

As a Christ believer, if you are interested in Greek-life, I highly suggest you make sure the organization you would like to be a part of reflects service in its mission.

There are no perfect organizations like there are no perfect organisms, Christ followers.

However, when one knows who they are, a part of a healthy body, exercises discipline, gain wisdom, and has a heart of service that person will thrive, especially a Greek-lettered Disciple!
