What If It Was Never About You? | Empower Her Blog

What if showing up, doing your best, and staying faithful wasn’t actually about you at all, but about what God wants to do through you?
Recently, something happened at my day job that unexpectedly.
For almost a year, I was given a task to hold down, one I had never done before.
I learned it, practiced it, and did the absolute best I could until the company hired someone new.
Then, came the moment I didn’t expect:
I was asked to train the new person.
Now mind you, I hadn't really trained anyone before at a day job.
And, here’s the part that really got me, the person I was training had years of experience doing a similar task. On paper, they knew more than me.
But, God knew something I didn’t yet.
Slow Is Not a Setback...It’s a Strategy
As I trained them, I noticed they wanted to move fast. They were used to speed.
They were confident.
They had done this before.
But, the process we use required intentionality, precision, and patience.
So I slowed things down.
I created a mini manual.
I explained each step carefully.
I reminded them it was okay to take their time.
And, while I was teaching them… the Holy Spirit was teaching me.
It hit me so clearly:
So many of us rush through God’s process because we’re excited about His promises.
We see the vision and hear the Word.
We get fired up about where God is taking us.
But, when we rush past the process, we miss what’s being built inside of us.
Then, we wonder why we keep repeating the same lessons!
Why the same tests keep showing up and God keeps circling us back to the same place.
It’s not punishment, it’s preparation!
It’s Not About Speed, It’s About Stewardship!
Faith isn’t about how fast you arrive.
It’s about how effective and faithful you are along the way.
You may be in a season where:
You want the promotion, the ministry to grow, the relationship or the next level.
But hear me, friend, God is more concerned with how you walk through the process than how quickly you get to the promise.
"Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ." -Colossians 3:23-24 (NLT)
When you shift your mindset and realize you’re doing this for God, not applause, not validation, not a title...everything changes.
God knows when the timing is right.
He knows when you’re ready.
He knows who is watching your obedience.
And sometimes… what you’re learning right now isn’t even just for you.
It may be for the person you’ll train.
The woman who comes behind you.
The testimony you’ll one day share.
This Week's Faith Moves...aka Nuggets :)
Before you rush into the next thing, take a moment and ask yourself:
Where might I be rushing God’s process? Is there an area where I’m more focused on arriving than becoming?
Am I doing this for recognition or for God’s glory? Would I still show up with excellence if no one noticed?
What is God teaching me in this season that could help someone else later? Write it down. Don’t dismiss it.
Friend, don’t despise the process.
Give yourself grace!
Don’t rush the lessons.
And, don’t underestimate what God is doing through your obedience.
Because what feels small right now…might be the very thing God uses to bless someone else.
And that’s kingdom work!
If this spoke to you, take a deep breath, thank God for the season you’re in, and keep showing up, one faithful step at a time.
Verse of the Day
Colossians 3:23-24 (NLT) “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.”
