Selfless was often a word to describe myself as in the early period of my walk with Christ, I often found myself giving to others at whatever cost, but sometime I started to experience what is known as "burnout".
I took a step back and prayed to the Father asking for strength and while He did uplift me and carried me through like the graciously generous Father He is, there was another answer I got and that was to reflect on how I was doing.
The Father wanted to know how I was doing and this took me by surprise because I had been so focused on pouring into others that I never stopped to pour into myself when I desperately needed to.
It is important that as daughters of God we establish a relationship with ourselves on our journey here on Earth that is a generous one.
We need to generously pour into ourselves as we do with others.
It may seem good to be selfless, but not at the cost of neglecting our own needs, and just because something is a good thing does not mean it is a God thing.
Being generous in our relationship with ourselves also includes the time we spend with the Father that allows Him to speak into our lives, speak over our lives and replenish us mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
While Matthew 7:12 says "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets", don't forget that what you do to others should first include what you do towards yourself.
It may seem good to be selfless but not at the cost of neglecting our own needs and just because something is good does not make it a God thing.
Don’t forget that what you do to others should first include what you do towards yourself.
