‘Don’t touch that!’ , ‘No!’, or ‘Stop that!’ are words and phrases I learned early in life that can help prevent anyone from getting into danger.
As an aunt of fourteen, those three phrases were my go to to keep my brothers’ and sisters’ tiny humans away from trouble!
However, now that I am a little wiser my perspective of ‘Don’t touch that!’ , ‘No!’, or ‘Stop that!’ has broadened.
I no longer limit those phrases within my vocabulary to share only with others.
I now make sure I use those phrases on myself as well!
In other words, there are times when I have to tell myself ‘Don’t touch that!’ , ‘No!’, or ‘Stop that!’ to help me from getting into danger…spiritually.
For example, whenever I feel my thoughts are trying to align with fear instead of my faith, I have to tell myself ‘Stop that, thinking!’
When someone wants me to do something outside of my beliefs or availability, I have to tell myself ‘No, that ain’t for you, Girl!’
Or, if I am spending too much time on social media rather than reading my Bible, I have to tell myself ‘Don’t touch that, phone!’
“No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.” Hebrews 12:11 NLT
Honey Bunches, I believe we are never too old for discipline…even if we have to do the discipline on ourselves!
As believers of Christ, we are called to be disciplined.
It’s so easy to lose sight of the promise when focus shifts away from our chosen paths.
In this season of becoming, we have to make sure we are being intentional to not allow distractions to cause us to lose focus on what God has called us to do.
Focus. Set those boundaries.
It’s okay to say no 😉
