EMPOWER HER BLOG: The Power of The Pause

I believe there are some things you can learn as a child, yet you have a whole new understanding as an adult.

For me, it’s the power of the pause.

The power of the pause is something I learned from my mom and it developed within me when I was a kid.

When my mom would help me to learn how to read, she would, what I call, strongly encourage me to pause at commas in any sentence.

She’d say things like, Uh, did you see that comma? Start again!

At the time, I couldn’t stand pausing.

I wanted to rush past every sentence, so I could hurry up and read whatever was requested by her to me.

However, the more I read with my mom the more I gained an appreciation of pausing when reading.

The more I paused the more my comprehension grew.

The more I paused the more I reflected and focused on what I needed to read that could help me.

As an adult, I have a new understanding of pausing.

I no longer see taking a pause as a simple punctuation in a sentence.

In fact, when it comes to pausing, it comes when I am feeling drained or overwhelmed.

It is triggered to let me know it’s time to pause what I am doing, to take a moment to be still and trust.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5-6

These verses are some of the first verses I learned as a child.

They were encouraged for me to learn by none other than my mom😀

When I read these verses as a girl, I would simply pause at each punctuation to help me remember the verses.

Yet, I have a new understanding when reading them.

For every punctuation mark in these verses, I am reminded of what faith really looks like.

To trust in God with all my heart, it takes taking a pause through a leap of faith.

To not lean on my own understanding, it takes a pause to surrender my will and accept God’s.

To seek God in all I do, it takes a pause to call on Him before calling on people.

For God to show me the path to take, it takes a pause to spend a moment in His presence.

Pausing gives time to reflect before acting.

Honey Bunches, what are the things in life you seem to rush pass through?

I encourage you to start exercising The Power of the Pause.

Take intentional time each day and spend a moment in God’s presence.

Better yet, start now!

Ask God to reveal the area(s) you need to slow down and trust Him more.

Ask Him to give you the strength and grace to do what He says.

May you find all you need when you take a moment to tap into the power of the pause☺️
