The Mother I Never Knew

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

There’s a part of us that will never heal if we fail to discover who we are.

We may choose to suppress the uncomfortable parts of us.

Eventually, these pieces will return with an opportunity for us to discover our truth.

It’s up to us to make the decision to respond:

heal or repeat.

– Breonna Gildon

We have to water our roots in order to grow.

In January, I was faced with an uncomfortable decision I’ve avoided for years: meeting my biological mother for the first time.

Instead of silencing the voice to move forward, I decided it was time for me to heal this area of emotional discomfort.

I always wanted to meet her; I wasn’t sure when was the right time to make it happen.

There were plenty of times when I would convince myself it was the perfect opportunity to experience healing.

Though with every attempt, some thing would distract or discourage me from going through to visit her.

So, what made me decide that it was time?

In the beginning of the year, I participated in a fast with my church.

At the same time, my pastor taught about healing for three weeks straight!

As the fast was coming to an end, I discovered I wasn’t healed emotionally due to not gaining a relationship with my birth mother.

The interesting thing is I forgiven her for what she has done.

The fact I knew she was alive and she had a desire to know me I discovered an empty space that prevented me to emotionally open up to anyone!

Our past always have something to teach us.

Since meeting my biological mother, she’s helped me to heal from a lot of trauma I never knew existed!

Those pieces that were once broken are now mending to create a wholeness within me.

All of the “why do I think this way” or “why did I react that way” I’m learning how to gain control by listening to her wisdom.

By her experiences, she has an unique way of helping me to grow into the woman I am called to be.

I’m learning to no longer be fearful and it’s okay for us to open the door to learn from those suppressed pieces.

It’s a great way for us to fully heal and grow who we are called to be!

Healing Nuggets

Isaiah 41:10

God not only speaks to us to get our attention.

Often, He speaks through people and the Bible.

When the opportunity to heal comes, we should move forward knowing that it’s not going to be easy, but worth it.

Listen, Don’t be surprised by what your past can teach you!

It’s never too late to make the decision to heal!
