Unexpected Blessings: How a Three-Day Fast Strengthened My Marriage and Restored Relationships

My husband and I were on the verge of divorce.

My income wasn’t enough on paper to pay my bills (even though, every month, God made a way!), and I felt so far from Him. As the last three days of 2024 approached, I told myself I wasn’t going into 2025 feeling like this.

I set out to do a three-day dry fast and asked God to give me the strength to complete it and to remove anything in my life that was a barrier—anything keeping me from being truly close and intimate with Him.

After two days, a position I had wanted since day one opened up at the company I work for.

A couple my husband and I are close with reached out to mediate and help us find a resolution.

Discovering Clarity Through Fasting

Throughout my fast, I spent more time reading the Word and talking to God—unburdening my heart and truly letting go of the things weighing me down. All of this motivated me to complete the fast.

Conversations That Changed Everything

In the first ten days of January, my husband and I had some hard conversations that ultimately led to reconciliation. I was offered the position, which allowed me to work from home and came with a $20,000 annual pay increase. Through my fast, I also came to see God as a loving Father who cares for His children, rather than as a harsh ruler who only wants to punish us.

Healing Beyond Marriage

God also restored my strained relationship with my parents, allowing us to have honest conversations that led to reconciliation.

During the entire three days of my fast, I felt closer and closer to God. Even after it ended, I felt like I was on a spiritual high—so confident in Him that no matter what life put in front of me, I knew He was there, guiding me through it.

Through this experience, I learned that God truly cares about us—our needs, our desires, and even the smallest details of our lives. He cares about our hearts, and when we seek Him with sincerity and humility, He reveals Himself to us. He is always with us, holding our hand.

Sharing My Story For You

Doubt and self-worth has been a personal struggle, but knowing that God saw my end from the beginning—knowing every mistake I would make and every sin I would commit—yet still chose me and placed a great purpose inside of me, has helped me silence those thoughts when life gets tough.

Let God tell you who He is through His Word. When you allow others to shape your perception of God, it affects every part of your life. He reveals His character clearly through historical accounts in the Bible and through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Let God define Himself—not others.

People are broken and sinful by nature, often carrying a distorted view of a perfect and holy God. Seek Him directly, and He will show you who He truly is.

Verse of the Day

God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’

-Exodus 3:14 (NIV)

What is one scripture that has helped you and why?

Hebrews 4:15 highlights the humanistic side of God. Jesus fully understands the human experience and can relate to us on a deep level. Knowing that He has felt what we feel makes it easier to come to Him with my burdens—because He truly understands what it means to be human and experience these emotions. I don’t have to sanitize my prayers and can express my raw emotions.
