This month is coming to an end.
And for me, what started out on a high ended up taking a slight turn for the worse.
As you may know, Empower Her Tulsa Meet Up went amazing! So many women of God came together for a morning of empowerment.
If you ask me, January 18, 2020 was the best day of January!
There was pure empowerment in those who shared their testimonies and God’s presence was felt throughout the venue. The vision of Empower Her, “Sharing transparency to empower!” was certainly fulfilled!
I was so pumped about life and how things began looking on the up and up. Then, the unexpected happened.
Not even a week after Empower Her’s Meet Up, I received some news that shook me. As I was casually scrolling on social media, I discovered a former classmate of mine passed away.
We were not only close in age we ran in similar circles in college. As I began to become overwhelmed with emotions, I started to wonder,
“When was the last time we spoke?”
“When was the last time we saw each other?”
“What was our last interaction?”
It was a few seconds after that it hit me. The last time we interacted was on social media.
I realized there was a post via Facebook my classmate shared that inspired me. He expressed in excitement on his start of a new journey to work on his doctoral degree.
I didn’t even remember if I liked the post.
The only day in life that’s promised to us is yesterday!
In the Bible, it tells us that our lives are merely like vapor. An even better translation says,
“How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog-it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” James 4:14
Now, I am not trying to scare you or make you feel uncomfortable. I’m sharing simply because it’s my reality.
As I share this today, God is helping me to weather through the storm. Though I am no meteorologist, I’m confident the more we spend time here on earth we will all have moments where we must persevere through unexpected circumstances.
Like me, I’m sure most if not all the world was shook to hear NBA legend, Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and the others untimely passed away on Sunday.
Dealing with life’s unexpected is never easy, but we have to keep going because when we experience a second, minute, hour, or day alive it is a reminder that there’s purpose for us to fulfill.
And, we are the only ones who can.

Cast your cares on Him, (God), for He cares.
Dealing with the unexpected is not always an easy process. Often, it gifts us with anxiety, doubt, fear, even depression. We must know that anything in life we experience God is always willing to take and help us. It’s simply impossible for us to handle unexpected on our own!
