Have you ever felt like no matter how far you’ve come, it’s still easy to fall back into old habits? I know that feeling all too well, but I also know the freedom God offers when we let His Spirit lead. Today, I want to share a piece of my story and the hope that Romans 8:15 gave me.
I was sitting with Romans 8:15 where it says: “For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, Abba, Father.”
That little phrase fall back stopped me in my tracks. Because I know what it feels like to fall back.
There was a time when I was stuck in cycles that felt unbreakable. Sexual sin had such a hold on me. No matter how many times I told myself, “I’m done with this,” I would slip and fall back. It felt like bondage, like chains I couldn’t shake.
But then I learned what this scripture really meant. When I gave my life to Christ, I didn’t just get forgiveness, I got His Spirit living inside me. That meant I didn’t have to fight on my own. I didn’t have to keep falling back. I could cry out, Abba, Father, and know that He heard me.
And that’s exactly what I did. I cried out for help.
I told God I couldn’t carry this thing anymore. Slowly but surely, He began to strengthen me. The same places where I used to fall became the very places I started to walk strong. Today, I can say I walk in freedom and purity not because of my own willpower, but because His Spirit leads me.
Because let’s be real, how easy is it to fall back into what’s familiar? Old patterns, old sin, old ways of coping. I know for me, there were seasons I felt trapped in cycles I couldn’t break. For years, I battled sexual sin and it always felt easier to just fall back than fight forward.
Even now, no matter how long we’ve been walking with God, the temptation to go back is real. It’s like a baby learning to walk, falling comes naturally. Standing and walking takes help. That’s where the Spirit steps in. We don’t have to carry this weight alone or stay stuck in fear.
What changes everything is knowing we’ve been adopted. God is not a distant figure. He’s Abba, our Father. That means when we cry out, He answers. His Spirit inside of us empowers us to live free, not bound. The same places that once held us hostage can become the very areas we see breakthrough and transformation.
Sharing My Story For You
Friend, I’m proof. The moment I surrendered and let God lead me through His Spirit, He gave me the strength to walk in purity and freedom I never thought I could have. And if He did it for me, He can do it for you too.
Don’t let shame or fear make you fall back. Remember, you are adopted, chosen, and loved. All you have to do is cry out, Abba, Father, and He will meet you right where you are.
Verse of the Day
Romans 8:15 (NIV) "The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”"
