When You’re the One Called to Break the Cycle | Empower Her Blog

To the woman who feels called to stand in the gap, your prayers matter more than you know. Keep fasting. Keep interceding. God honors the quiet sacrifices.
There was a time when every fast I did had one thing in common, me.
I fasted for a husband, a car, a better job, and sometimes just for peace of mind. I’d pick days, set times, and tell God all the things I was hoping He’d do in my life. And while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking our personal needs to God, that’s biblical and encouraged…something shifted for me as I grew in faith.
I started noticing things in my family that needed breakthrough too.
Cycles. Silence. Sickness.
Things no one wanted to talk about, but I knew needed healing.
So I made a decision: to fast and pray not for me this time, but for them.
This testimony isn’t for recognition. It’s just a nudge. A suggestion.
What if your next fast wasn’t about you at all?
What if you prayed and fasted in private for someone else?
You don’t even have to tell them.
Just you and God.
And trust, He hears. He sees. He moves.
Here are 3 simple truths I’ve learned along the way that might help you shift your perspective:
Fasting isn’t about performance, it’s about surrender.
When you deny yourself for the sake of someone else, you reflect Christ more than you know.
You may be the only one in your family willing to seek God for things others have settled with.
Your prayers may be the seed that breaks generational cycles.
You don’t have to announce your fast to the world.
Just like Matthew 6 teaches, when you do it in secret, your Father will reward you openly.
Fasting and prayer aren’t just tools to get what we want, they’re acts of worship that align us with what God wants.
So maybe this is your sign:
Fast for her.
Pray for him.
Stand in the gap for them.
Because someone’s breakthrough might just be waiting on your obedience.
Sharing My Story For You
I’m sharing this blog post for you.
For the one who feels it before anyone says it.
For the one who sees the weight her family carries and carries it too.
For the one who silently prays, “God, please do something.”
This is for the girl who doesn’t just want a breakthrough…
She believes God can bring it.
She believes God is powerful enough to heal it.
To restore it.
To turn it around.
If that’s you, this one’s for you.
Verse of the Day
Matthew 6:16-18 (NIV) When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
